Fall Protection Training

Despite the considerable knowledge of people on safety, accidents still seem to happen everywhere. Among the most frequent type of accidents is falling. Falling incidents are actually vey common in the construction industry, where people practically climb half-finished skyscrapers with minimal protection. For this kind of occupation, among others, fall protection is not only very important; it is vital, and is usually a requirement. There are actually laws and policies that protect construction workers form working environments without the necessary fall protection facilities.

Restraint and arrest systems

There are two major categories of fall protection. The first is the fall restraint system. The fall restraint system is basically those that will prevent the person from falling. These may include the guardrails that may warn the worker if he or she is too close to the edge or even ultimately prevent him or her from falling. Another example of a fall restraint system is the harness. These strong cords are attached to the body and are usually tied off in a certain stable part at the top of the construction, with the right length that will make sure that if the person attached falls, the rope will prevent him or her from ultimately having contact with the ground. The other type of fall protection is the fall arrest system. The fall arrest system will basically “catch” the falling worker, effectively stopping his or her fall when such an accident occurs.

Knowledge and caution

As with any type of safety training, considerable knowledge in the matter is important if tragedies are to be prevented. Fall protection training should be a part of the regular activities of the workers at risk. Extreme caution during work is of course very important. Furthermore, proper on-site supervision of the necessary authorities is also important for a safer workplace.
